Jim's 32nd Birthday Party My grandma sitting for her drivers license written test.  It would take three visits over three days, the Niles Police Department, insurance company intervention, and a civil servant who talks like Joe Pesci to get my grandma successfully through the process.  Now she is on the road again, God help us all.

Kathleen Kern's birthday party at Bin36.
Here's a picture of what I ordered that night. That's just about as fancy as you'll ever see a serving of pork tenderloin. But, alas, it still tastes like pork.

August, 2001:

Beginning our hike up the mountain on Yakushima Island the day before the arrival typhoon season.  We were especially foolhardy to bring with us minimal provisions.  At night we were tormented by wild monkeys.
Days later we had an easier camping experience, this time at a campground overlooking the sea.  The sunset over this tori is one of the most beautiful views I remember from Japan.
